Pursuing any outdoor sport or activity is heavily dependent on the weather. The pitch gets flooded and the game gets cancelled, there’s no wind so the sailing regatta gets postponed.

At the Dover and Folkestone Hang Gliding club our activities are extremely sensitive to the prevailing weather conditions. If the wind is too light, too strong, too gusty or not in the right direction then we cannot fly.

The introduction of Swarm’s texting and messaging service to our club has given us two major benefits. The first is that when the conditions are right for flying we are now seeing more members on the hill. The second is that when the conditions are not right, members are not wasting time and petrol getting to the hill.

Swarms allow any member arriving on a hill to broadcast to the whole group a message describing the real time conditions. The speed of delivery of the Swarm message means that all group members are immediately notified and can then make an informed decision.  Swarm also allows members to ask questions of each other. ‘I’m heading to Spark Hill, does anyone want a lift?’

I would highly recommend any club or group looking for a method of getting or receiving real time information to and from members to use Swarm.
